Memorization technique – 3 cycle speed reading

The tool I want to introduce you today is a memorizing technique. This will help people to study in a more effective way. It helps reduce time and effort. It will probably help cramming exams more, so it will help students a lot.

This was from Yoshihiro Ikeda, memory champion, and author of Studying on the brain. Basically says that brain studies found that memory is like painting a wall with a paint brush. You have to brush a number of times to fully paint the wall. So you want to look at the thing you want to memorize a number of times.

Lets say you are memorizing a book. The technique tells you to read the first page twice, then go to page 2, then back to page 1, then to 2, 3, then back to 2, then 3, 4 then back to 3, then 4, 5 and so on. This way, you read each page 3 times.

Page 1, 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 2, 3, 4, 3, 4, 5, 4, 5, 6…

Here is Japanese Katakana. Try it for yourself.

This technique will be especially good for memorizing vocabs and etc. Because things like text books have a lot of materals in one page, I would recommend dividing the units into each passages or paragraphs if you want to memorize it.
